The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told his interviewer: “I stated I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that won the league last term. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, and its impact at the club. Jota was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
