Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
