Ex- Cincinnati Bengals and University of Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Badly Injured in Ranch Incident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after sustaining serious burns in an accident on his ranch near Burnet, Texas.
The Accident
Per a release from his family, Shipley was using a piece of machinery when it caught fire. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was after he suffered major burn injuries over a significant portion of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who transported him to a nearby medical facility. He was then care-flighted to a hospital in Austin, where he is in critical but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and no infections or other issues on his journey back to health,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.
Extent of Injuries
Reports indicate that Shipley received full-thickness burns to over one-fifth of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is infection and pneumonia.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley earned All-American honors while at Texas in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he recorded 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Bengals, he had stints with Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
