According to new allegations from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a two-decade sentence for trafficking offenses, is allegedly readying a clemency request for consideration by the presidential administration.

Preferential Handling Alleged at Federal Prison

House Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a whistleblower provided information indicating Maxwell is preparing the clemency petition. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House judiciary committee, declared in a official statement that the facility's chief was assisting the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for executive mercy.

The exact content of the “commutation application” are unclear, the congressman noted.

Alleged Privileges and Special Accommodations

The representative claims that, per the insider, Maxwell has been receiving “customized” meals that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the supervisor has individually organized private meetings for Maxwell and her visitors.

The visits reportedly involve a “special cordoned-off area” for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also allowed to bring computers, which the congressman characterized as an “unprecedented action” given the security risk and potential for unsupervised contact.

Reportedly on one occasion, when phone lines went down for other inmates, she was given specific instructions about who she should tell her contacts to contact and how personnel would relay the call to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told House Democrats that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she “essentially used” the warden as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The news release states that Maxwell’s correspondents would send files directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to Maxwell, who would review and edit them and provide them back to the warden to digitize and send to the original sender.

Extra Benefits Alleged

Other privileges allegedly granted to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a perk typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the facility's gym.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “does not comment” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson noted.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that she told close associates in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

In August, Maxwell was moved from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most detainees are serving time for financial and non-violent crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, the official, who also once acted as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

That interview came as the administration was facing increasing scrutiny to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid intense speculation around the President's own connections to the fallen billionaire and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Congressional Response

In the news release, the congressman also revealed that he had sent a letter to the President, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and urged the chief executive to deny Maxwell’s commutation request.

“You should not grant any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” Raskin wrote in the letter. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

Raskin requested that Blanche attend a open legislative session to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for the convict with Blanche or others, whether he had instructed him or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the move or special conditions in prison, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, relatives or agents have made any commitments to the President or his attorneys.

Raskin has asked for a reply to the questions by the specified date.

Last month, the US supreme court rejected an petition from the convict on her trafficking verdict.
