Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
