Bouldering in the Peak District

Including total beginners will rapidly be ascending sheltered Peak District rock faces on this short course. Moclín, a historic white village in southern Spain, about a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking backdrop for this art retreat. Participants of every skill level – even beginners – will be taught how to conceive and execute modern art. Some time will be spent outside, working on tutorials in the open. These sketches and paintings will then be developed in the workspace, with participants producing several interpretive scenes in acrylics to be exhibited in the local community. The group has exclusive access of the hotel, which is set around an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The price encompasses five days’ art instruction; all meals; and an trip to the nearby fortress and additional local sights.

Vegetarian Culinary in the Algarve

This sun-drenched culinary holiday, set on a riverside villa in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Participants will master the art of meze spreads, attend a hands-on falafel session, refine brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes visits to the local market and a local vineyard to sample local vintages, combined with free time for walks by the Funcho River, to relax on the deck or take a dip in the pool. The accommodation, a renovated rural property, has five bedrooms, plus glamping tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in High Wycombe

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an energizing, welcoming weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule throughout the camp is a high-energy warm-up session, followed by three 90-minute workshops covering various urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to show off new moves. Dancers are split into levels based on skill level, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to street dance, right up to experienced performers or teachers. The camp does not provide lodging but there are a number of places to stay nearby, and it is under an hour by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Break in Cornwall

St Ives is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Guests will learn traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. There will be voice exercises, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The holiday is held in a country house with views of St Ives Bay. Full board are included, including a traditional tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, alas, is not included. Writing in Crete

Writer and lecturer Greg Mosse leads the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He explores topics including story structure, characters, setting and tension, to submitting work to agents. A co-host, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the week. The holiday is based at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the foot of the Lefka Ori – 10 private accommodations are set around a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the final evening, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a farewell dinner.

Introduction to Apiculture in Mid Wales

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses on eco-living: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This weekend introduction will help participants get to grips with the basics of beekeeping, explore the biology of bees and learn about their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to relax in the centre's carefully maintained woodlands, which are home to polecats, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. Accommodation the evening prior is 80 pounds, and full-board accommodation during the course is 97 pounds.

Yachting for Beginners in Essex

These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on dinghies and Dufours on the Blackwater estuary. They are designed for novice sailors learning the ropes or more experienced mariners who want a skills update. Sailors can hone their steering, build their seamanship and work towards the recognized levels one to three in a fun, welcoming environment. There are day-only and overnight packages, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterside sailing school. The non-residential package provides packed lunches, while the residential package covers two nights’ accommodation and full board, from full English breakfasts to BBQ dinners.
